Papa was acquired from Hillsborough County Animal Shelter in September of 2012. He was found abandoned in a dog park in Hillsborough County by Animal Control. They listed him as 8 years old, but after a visit at Animal Health Veterinary Clinic, it was determined that Papa was around 12 years old. He has very limited sight due to cateracts. Very quickly, we noticed that he was deaf, also. When Papa arrived, he made himself at home on the sofa. . . . . so that is where he stays all the time! Papa remembered a different house so he used to walk into walls, doors, and even the back of the sofa. Papa was perfectly house trained. He only knew how to use the yard. At first he was afraid to go in the yard by himself. After a couple of leash walks around the yard, he discovered he was safe.
Papa had a dental, in which he lost all but 4 teeth. When he smiled, the last canine tooth is seen.
January 2014 Update: In November, Papa started having fainting spells. He was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. A treatment of heart and high blood pressure medications was started. During an ultrasound with a specialist, it was noted that Papa is probably 15 years old and not 12. Since the medication treatment started, we have had to increase the dosage due to the fainting spells happening again.
Papa was put to rest on May 5, 2014. He was the first Senior Rescue. He will be greatly missed.
Until we meet again Papa, you will always be in my heart!
